The legacy of Studs Terkel, the Pulitzer Prize-winning oral historian and influential broadcaster whose interviews drew insights more relevant than ever from a pantheon of the 20th century’s greatest leaders and thinkers, is being preserved and made accessible for free in The Studs Terkel Radio Archive, an ambitious initiative spearheaded by the WFMT Radio Network. The Chicago organization is part of local station WFMT, which served as Terkel’s professional home for 45 years.

Studs Terkel Radio Archive Surpasses Kickstarter Goal

Thanks in part to a comprehensive PR strategy implement by PKPR, the Studs Terkel Radio Archive raised $87,000 from over 700 backers in a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign, surpassing its goal of $75,000.

PKPR’s strategy included offering historic Terkel interviews with guests like Gloria Steinem and Rosa Parks as exclusives to a wide range of outlets. Coverage include Time, Rolling Stone, Quartz, Slate, The Daily Dot, Brain Pickings, OUT, ColorlinesChicagoist, HistoryBuff, and Adweek’s Fishbowl DC.
